AUDIO FIDERITY
RECORDS
Independent label: Audio Fidelity records had first appeared
in the U.K. at Hi-Fi exhibitions but, during 1959 - the first year that stereo
records became available in Britain - the company set up an office in Crawford
Street, selling mono and stereo albums at a premium price. By 1962, the label
had been licensed to Philips Records who then issued fifteen titles in both
formats, but with only modest success. Since Britain at the time had yet to
become stereophonised. The catalogue later passed to Transatlantic Records for
distribution at a time when the U.K.’s two major players, EMI and Decca, were
just introducing their own ‘stereo spectacular’ labels, Studio Two and Phase
Four respectively. Manufactured And Distributed By Transatlantic Records. Former
