near Port Talbot, South Wales. After leaving school at the age of 14, he worked
in a local factory before auditioning and being accepted by The Carl Rosa Opera
Company. His performed his 1st professional part at the age of 24 and went on to

world". World famous tenor Benjamino Gigli commented on his "exceptional and
magnificent voice". Despite all of this, Bruce Dargavel was a modest man. He was
a very good friend of Ashley Pegg who lived in Cradley, which is in the heart of
the Black Country. Bruce appeared in many fund raising concerts that Ashley
organised in that area such as Cradley, Stourbridge, Quarry Bank etc. Bruce and
his lovely wife Vi lived in London during his career. Following retirement,
Bruce returned to his native Neath, still singing well into his 70s, where he
died in November 1985 at the age of 80.
