EVOLUTION
RECORDS

The British 'Evolution' label seems to have had nothing to do with Norman Petty's American label of the same name.  It operated from 1969 to 1971. The large four-digit catalogue numbers are surprising: you don't see many singles on Evolution nowadays, so given their rarity it seems probable that the numbering started at E-2400 and jumped to E-3000 at some point - the highest E-2400 series single I have been able to trace was E-2464.  Manufacture and distribution of the 3000 series were by RCA.  An initial blue label  was replaced at some point before E-2449 by a more ambitious swirly one, which lasted until E-2462.  By the time E-2463 came out the plain design had returned, this time in white with rather pale blue printing.  Before the end of Evolution's existence the swirly label had mabe a return. Thanks to Robert Lyons For the info.
