GUILD
RECORDS
Independent label: A label dedicated
to choral music and organ music. Guild was set up in 1967 by Barry
Rose (organist, and master of the choristers, of Guildford Cathedral at the
time) and Nick Ware. Its first batch of three EPs featured either
the choir or the organ of Guildford Cathedral; the fourth featured Rose
himself playing English organ music. Guild flourished, and it continues as
a label to the present day, though it issued what appears to have been its
last-but-one 7" record - Roger Fisher's 'The Organ Of Chester Cathedral' EP - in
early 1970, the vast majority of its releases have been LPs or
CDs. Most of its EPs were available in stereo or mono: stereo records have
a 'GRS' prefis, mono ones a 'GRM' one. Numbering was in the
300s. EPs, were pressed by Decca and were Orlake pressings. My
