RENDEZVOUS
RECORDS

Rendezvous Records was a DIY label. It managed one single. The PR prefix means it was a custom pressing made in the plant in Edinburgh where Waverley/EMI had a lot of their records pressed. Some records were recorded in the associated studios (Craighall) and then a small run pressed up or others were recorded elsewhere and the tapes sent in for a tape to disc transfer (which I have always supposed led to the TD prefix which forms part of the same numbering system). The pressing numbers started in the 1000s around 1962/3 but then jumped to a 5000 series as best I can tell around 1964 and continued well into the 7000s by the late 1970s. Unfortunately a lot of the Waverley releases and other independents from Scotland which have the same look don't consistently have a JEF, PR, TD or CS (another prefix used) number to accurately place them. Many of these items would have minimal runs (99 is often cited as being the maximum prior to Tax being incurred. It issued singles in an HR-0 numerical series. Distributed By Rendezvous Records. The Size Seven Group hailed from Corby in Northamptonshire. Consisting of six members, Alan Black on bass, George Cumming on piano and vocals, Billy Geary on guitar and harmonica, Brian Lynn-Dowell on vocals, Billy Nicol on drums and Jack Stewart on lead guitar, they were an extremely popular and successful group in the local area, and their first single "Crying My Heart Out" was issued by the local label Rendezvous. The lack of other releases from that particular label would suggest that it existed briefly and solely to give The Size Seven Group a leg up. This was a successful move, and resulted in the group being signed to Mercury where they remained for a further three singles, of which "Where Do We Go From Here?" was the first. follow-up singles "It's Got To Be Love" and "In Time" completely failed to register with the public.
