REX
RECORDS
The Rex label dates back to the 78rpm
years. It was started up by the Crystalate Gramophone Company in
1933, and was taken over by Decca, along with the rest of Crystalate, in
1937. In 1948 Decca put the label into hibernation; it - or at least
its name - was reawakened in 1965, from which point it served as a vehicle for
Irish music. Rex tasted success in 1970 when Dana's, 'All Kinds Of
Everything' (R-11054) topped the Singles Chart; her follow-up, 'Who Put The
Lights Out' (R-11062) also charted; but that was as good as it
got. The label seems to have expired in the late '70s, possibly at
the time when Decca was bought by Polygram. There were two more 'Rex'
labels in the '80s, Thanks to Robert Lyons for the
info.
