BAF
RECORDS

Independent label:  A Reggae label.  BAF-1, 'Swan Lake', by the Cats, which scraped into the Top 50 in 1969, is said in the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles to be by a Dutch group, but, while there was a group of that name from Holland, BAF's Cats were from London and were put together by John Kpiaye, who was later to become a prominent member of the British Reggae scene.  The Cats were responsible for the label's first five singles; there were at least ten released altogether.  BAF-1 to BAF-4 were issued in 1969; 6 to 8 came out in 1970, while 10, 'Bubble Gum', by Wave One (BAF-10) appeared in 1972.  The company sleeve shown opens on the right-hand side, which may explain why so many BAF singles are in less than mint condition nowadays - too many accidental spills by people who thought that they were holding the record the right way up.  In 1971 the company released a Various Artists album with a naked lady on the front cover, but even that didn't prove popular enough to avert its closing down shortly afterwards.
