A custom-recording concern, from Pinner, near
Watford. As is often the case with such companies, Studio Republic's
products are hard to find: presumably they were pressed in small quantities and
sold privately. With them being so difficult to trace, giving dates
of operation is next to impossible, but the Southern Stompers EP 'Streamline
Train' (REP-10,000) shown dates from 1961 and the Mick & Marilyn EP
'Encounter' (SRM-7096) from 1971 which may give some idea of how long the
company was in business. In the '70s (and late '60s?) LPs were
numbered in an SRS-12000 series (also SRM-12000?); there was also an SRLP-5000
series, which have been unable to date. The only '70s EP - the
Mick & Marilyn one - was numbered in the SRM-7000s. Not being
sure whether that record was on Encounter (as the label suggests) or Studio
Republic (as the number indicates) Were there any EPs issued on the actual
Studio Republic label in the '70s? The 'M' in the prefixes seems to
have indicated mono recordings. The SRS-12000 series reached at least
12081 and the Encounter EP was numbered 7096, suggesting that there must be
quite a few Studio Republic records out there somewhere. Thanks to Robert Lyons
