 Independent label: Track Records was an English record label founded in London in 1966 by Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp, then managers of hard rock band The Who. The most successful artists whose work appeared on the Track label were The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Who, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Thunderclap Newman and Golden Earring. In its early years Track was one of the hippest and most successful record companies in the UK. The label ceased operations in 1978.however, it was revived two decades later, by Ian Grant and Bill Kenwright, with the blessing of Chris Stamp.   During the '60s and '70s manufacture and distribution were by Polydor / Phonodisc.  Two main numerical series were employed for singles: thirty-seven were issued in a 604-000 series from 1967-70; during 1970 this changed to a standard Polydor seven-numbers-starting-with-2 one, 2094-000.  After 2094-004 this changed briefly to 2095-001; after 2095-002 it switched back, starting the 2094s again at 2094-007.  Another change occurred after 2094-013, when the series jumped to 2094-102; it reached 2094-142 before the end.
